Frequently asked questions about our systems and services
How do I choose an alarm system? You can look at security systems like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. Before you choose your security system, decide what level of protection you and your family require for your home. A basic security system provides protection around doors and provides motion detection. An enhanced security system provides basic protection PLUS additional protection from intrusion around first and second floor windows, basement windows, and windows near roof lines and porches.
How does an alarm system work?
Basic Security Protection:
Features door sensors and internal motion sensors
• How it works:
A basic security system includes protection of the doors by wired or wireless sensors, which detect the opening and closing of a door. An internal motion sensor detects an intruder inside the home. A motion sensor can be thought of as a backup to a door sensor.
• How it protects your home:
A basic security system is designed to primarily protect your possessions and valuables when your home is unoccupied. The doors in your home should be protected by door sensors, while motion sensors protect the inside of the home by sensing motion should an intruder gain access through an unprotected window.
• How to turn it on and off (while away):
To turn on the alarm system simply push the AWAY button on the keypad. You have now turned on all door and motion sensors. You will have 50 seconds to leave through the door where the keypad is located. When you return home, the keypad will beep to remind you to turn off your alarm.
• How to turn it on (while at home):
To turn on the alarm system for door protection only, simply push the STAY button on the keypad. The door sensors are armed but the motion sensors remain unarmed allowing you to walk freely inside the home.
Enhanced Security Protection:
Features door sensors and internal motion sensors, PLUS additional sensors for your basement, first and second floor windows.
• How it works:
A enhanced security system includes protection of the doors, as well as internal motion sensors, PLUS window protection by wired or wireless sensors. Like door protection, window protection detects an intruder before they get into the home. Window protection is also a convenient way to determine if any windows are left open when you are at the keypad.
• How it protects your home:
An enhanced security system is designed to protect you, your family, and your possessions when your home is occupied or unoccupied. The windows, as well as doors, are protected. Window sensors activate the alarm before the intruder comes into the home, while a internal motion sensor protects the inside of the home should an intruder gain access through an unprotected window.
• How to turn it on and off (while away):
To turn on the alarm system simply push the AWAY button on the keypad. You have now turned on all doors, windows and motion sensors. You will have 50 seconds to leave through the door where the keypad is located. When you return home, the keypad will beep to remind you to turn off your alarm.
• How to turn it on (while at home):
To turn on the alarm system for door and window protection only, simply push the STAY button on the keypad. The door and window sensors are armed but the motion sensors remain unarmed allowing you to walk freely inside the home.
